Breeders, as well as those only interested in racing potential, could do well to examine the credentials of the 13 fillies in the consignment of 18 lots breeding and racing giant Darley has booked into the annual Dubbo yearling sale to be conducted by Peter Milling & Company at the city’s showground sales centre on Sunday February 14.

They include daughters of world class shuttled horses Ad Valorem (USA), a Danzig Group 1 winner in England at two and three, and Dubai Destination (USA), a Kingmambo winner of the Royal Ascot Queen Anne Stakes, and locals Lonhro, Commands, Nadeem, Strategic and Viscount.

A filly by Ad Valorem is from Portugal, a three-quarter sister by Encosta de Lago to Delago Brom, a VRC Australian Guineas-Gr.1 winner and sire of winners up to Group 2 level, and a Dubai Destination is from Popolaccio (USA), a winner in France by Nureyev.

Two other fillies are in the first crop of the Darley based Redoute’s Choice Blue Diamond-Gr.1 winner Nadeem and are from the imported mares Indy Rose (USA), an A.P. Indy winner who cost $950,000 at American sales, and Irish Blarney (GB), a Halling half-sister to three European Group1 winners who was purchased at English yearling sales for approximately $900,000.

A filly by Commands, a sire so respected he is doing the 2010 northern hemisphere season in Japan, is from the Western Symphony (USA) stakes placed Umiko, while a Lonhro available is from Rose of Hawthorne, a sister to Group1 winner and million dollar earner Camino Rose.

The Darley Dubbo consignment also includes colts by Ad Valorem, Elusive Quality, Reset and Tiger Hill (IRE). The Elusive Quality is from May Morning (IRE), an awesomely bred winner got by Danehill from a Mr. Prospector mare.

Bowness, a stud with a reputation for producing nice quality horses, has nine lots listed for Dubbo including three by the Hennessy Queensland Derby winner Half Hennessy and a filly by Dubai Destination.

The latter sire is also to be represented by a colt and a filly from Caithness Breeding, Crowther. As usual, they will be offering more prospective winners by their speed imparting sire Volcanic Prince, one who has a very promising current 3-year-old filly in Alittlevolcanic. She has won both her outings, appearances at Moonee Valley (by three lengths on January 15) and Morphettville (by two lengths on January 6).

Two very interesting fillies representing Turangga Stud, Scone were got in America to southern hemisphere time and foaled in Australia. They are by Kitten’s Joy, the source of 18 first crop winners in 2009, a year he was America’s most successful juvenile sire by stakes winners.

Other sires with Dubbo yearlings include Snippetson, Marwina, Nothin’ Leica Dane, Bel Danorio, Noverre (USA), Lucky Owners, Bureaucracy, Bellotto (USA), Foxhound (USA), Conatus, Choisir, Carnegie (IRE), Seidnazar, Fiery Match, Southern Image (USA), Excites, Zariz, Monde Bleu (GB), Manner Hill, Botswana, Volitant, Murphy’s Blu Boy, Untouchable, Pendragon, Nuclear Freeze, High Rolling and Pure Theatre.

The best known racing identities from Dubbo are from the harness racing industry - and are this couple - Barry Lew and his wife Ronda (yes that's the way she spells it). Barry trains and drives the top class pacer Karloo Mick. The 9YO has raced on 22 tracks around Australia. He's won 51 races and earned $1,140,518 in his stellar career to date.
